As the cold weather rolls in and World Porridge Day approaches, we begin to revel in the endless porridge possibilities. From nutty to fruity, sweet to salty, we've rounded up our favourite 8 recipes to try this Porridge Day.
1. Rose, cardamom & pistachio porridge
This Instagram-worthy recipe from The Medicinal Chef is pure luxury, combining the delicate flavour of rosewater with crushed pistachios, an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and protein!
2. Porridge with poached pears & cacao nibs
Sweet seasonal pears are the star of the show in this decadent porridge recipe from Madeleine Shaw, which is topped with anti-oxidant rich cacao nibs.
3. Spiced pumpkin porridge with caramalised apples & pecans
Nothing screams autumn more than pumpkin. This nourishing breakfast has sweet hints of cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and ginger, which perfectly infuse with the pumpkin puree and coconut sugar. The caramalised pecans scattered on top are a great source of healthy fats, which can help to reduce levels of unhealthy cholesterol.
4. Peanut butter overnight oats
This overnight oats recipe from the Minimalist Baker screams simplicity, whilst satisfying your peanut butter cravings at the same time! Need we say any more. Five minutes prep the night before is all it takes for a nourishing breakfast on-the-go.
5. Raspberry quinoa porridge
For an alternative porridge Madeliene Shaw switches classic oats for quinoa, a great source of protein that will leave you feeling full and energised all morning. This creamy coconut quinoa lends itself to tangy berries and a scattering of coconut.
6. Blueberry maple porridge
We love this creation from porridge-experts 26 Grains. The sweet and sour blueberries and dark maple treacle paired with creamy, salted oats makes this such a moreish breakfast. Fancy dining out for breakie? Visit their restaurant in Neal's Yard for an abundance of mouth-watering options.
7. Chunky Monkey Protein Porridge
This Neat Nutrition recipe is one for the gym-goers. The banana, chocolate, walnut combo is a great way to mix up a standard bowl of pr-oats (aka protein oats). It's made with quinoa flakes and is topped with a protein whip, perfect for refuelling post-workout.
8. Coconut chia porridge
Last but not least, we recently teamed up with Moma who included porridge pot samples in our recipe boxes! We made their coconut & chia oats with almond milk and topped with fresh berries, a dollop of almond butter and edible flowers for a pop of colour. Not to mention anti-oxidant rich cacao nibs, coconut flakes and a squeeze of honey. Yes please.
